After starting her agency, she was homeless for two years, from 2013- 2019. She was in and out of other individuals' homes. She spent 45 days in a Women's and Children's Shelter in Baltimore City, Maryland, in 2013 before moving to Houston, Texas, in May of 2014.

Keeping faith in God was how she gained financial sustainability through long-term and short-term jobs, contracts, book sales, and signing events. This has taught Tabu to trust God first and walk through the doors God opens.
